Designed for beginner students who don't know proper tennis grips and stepping and correct form, even if you have played before you must start at this level to develp a solid foundation through the Octagon grip development methodology. If a student takes a few months off they may become rusty and may have to start at a lower level to review important basic skills and memorization. Students at this age group will learn quickly and we will teach all basic skills, how to control the ball and keep it in play, using basic tennis form. Then they will learn how to Serve and match play with big sponge ball and then with quick kid's regular size tennis balls and then regular tennis balls. Hitting through the ball, control first then power is highly emphasized. A lot of hand/eye/footwork coordination drills and skills will be continued.

DESCRIPTION

A highly technical "OCTAGON METHOD" is introduced to learn proper grips on Forehands, backhands, volleys and serves. Regular tennis balls are used and various drills and footwork exercises combined with a lot of fun games like "Jail", "Around the world" are exercized. Mini tennis games are introduced first to keep their focus on rallying and controlling the ball, with big sponge balls, using proper form and consistency. Then they gradually move to the baseline using the graduated length method using regular tennis balls and quick kid's tennis balls.
The ever so popular "Scoop it up" game is also played to keep the class fun and relaxed. The key is to keep the children having a lot of fun so they really learn to embrace the game of tennis and come to love it. Improved players will be moved to Future Star 2.
Students who have taken 3 month consecutive lessons with tennisbuddys will be evaluated to see if they are ready to move to the next level.
The instructor always emphasizes that a student's biggest reward is their progress (no matter how small or big). To just be outdoors and active and build good hand eye coordination with a sport like tennis is a health benefit in and of itself. Important factor is that always choose a program and an instructor that a child really enjoys no matter what sport you pick, then they will more likely be able to choose a sport and grow to love it.
